Overview

The first station of the LWA was completed in April 2011, and is currently performing observations resulting from its first call for proposals in addition to a continuing program of commissioning and characterization observations . This first station is referred to as LWA1, and consists of 256, dual-polarization dipoles (10-88MHz) built at the VL site next to the VLA site (previously LWDA site). Invitations for proposals to the general community opened March 31st, 2012, and proposals should be submitted by June 22, 2012. LWA1 operates similar to a "single-dish" radio telescope and as a single station it doesn't have interferometric capabilities between multiple stations.
